This is the cartoon that started my "they" collection. I had always wondered, and here it was explained.

I was at a reading where Ed McBain read from his latest book

".Who's they?" Monroe asked.

"The weather guys."

"Then why didn't you say so? Why do people always say they this they that, instead of who the hell they is supposed to be.

I thought it would be a good thing to sign rather than just getting the book signed. I asked him if he had ever seen the cartoon, he said he hadn't so I left a copy of it with the photocopied passage at his hotel and he kindly signed the passage.
